Heritage Meets Digital: How We Built Lord Baker's Website in Dingle, Co. Kerry

May 20266 min read

When Lord Baker's approached us about building their website, we didn't get a brief about features or page counts. We got a story. One hundred and thirty years of hospitality in Dingle, four generations of the same family, and a dining room that has hosted guests from every corner of the world. The brief, once we distilled it, was simple: don't let the website embarrass the restaurant.

That's a high bar. Lord Baker's is the oldest licensed premises in Dingle — a town that punches well above its weight internationally when it comes to food, culture, and the quality of visitor experience. The website had to earn its place in that context.

Dingle and the Standard It Sets

Dingle, Co. Kerry has become one of Ireland's most visited destinations — not despite its remoteness, but because of it. The town's hospitality offering is genuinely exceptional by any measure: Michelin-recognised restaurants, world-class seafood, a craft brewing scene, and a depth of local character that visitors travel thousands of miles to experience. In that environment, a mediocre website isn't just a missed opportunity. It's a liability.

Restaurant websites in Dingle are often the first thing a visitor sees — before they arrive in Kerry, before they walk down the street, before they make any decision at all. The website is the first impression of the dining experience. For Lord Baker's, that meant every detail had to reflect the quality of what's behind the door.

The Design Brief: Heritage First

We spent time immersed in the history of the restaurant before a single wireframe was sketched. The building itself dates to 1890. The menu is anchored in the extraordinary seafood of the Dingle Peninsula — Dingle Bay crab, wild Atlantic prawns, Blasket Island scallops. The atmosphere is warm, unpretentious, and deeply local in the best possible sense.

From this came a clear design direction: warm coastal neutrals, generous typography, and an editorial quality that felt more like a well-printed menu than a standard hospitality website. We designed two distinct visual themes — a light mode using soft, warm neutrals and golden accents for daylight browsing; and a rich dark mode evoking the coastline at night, deep navy tones and gold — and built the site to detect the visitor's system preference and switch automatically. No toggle needed. The right experience, every time.

The Reservation System: Telegram Integration

One of the most practical problems facing a restaurant like Lord Baker's is reservation management. Phone calls during service are disruptive. Email inboxes get missed. Booking platforms take a commission cut and strip out the relationship between restaurant and guest.

We built a custom reservation request flow — guests fill out their details directly on the website — and connected it to Telegram. Every booking request lands instantly in the Lord Baker's team chat. The team can approve or reject the booking with a single tap, and the guest receives a confirmation by email. It's fast, it's free of third-party commission, and it keeps the team in control without interrupting service.

What a Restaurant Website in Kerry Needs in 2026

Whether you're running a restaurant in Dingle, a gastropub in Tralee, or a café in Killarney, the fundamentals of a strong hospitality website are the same. It needs to load fast on mobile — the majority of restaurant searches in Kerry now happen on phones, often moments before a visit decision is made. It needs to show the food and the atmosphere in a way that makes the visitor lean forward rather than scroll past. And it needs to make booking or contacting you as frictionless as possible.

For Lord Baker's, we also built full menu listings, a gallery of the space and signature dishes, opening hours and map integration, and on-page SEO targeting key search terms around dining in Dingle and Kerry. The site launched fully optimised and tested across all devices.

The Result

Lord Baker's now has a digital presence as considered as the dining room itself. The automatic light/dark theme delivers a premium experience across every device and every context. The Telegram reservation system has replaced fragmented phone and email bookings — the team receive instant notifications and confirm tables in one tap.

If you run a restaurant, bar, or hospitality business in Kerry or Cork and want a website that actually does the business justice, we'd love to hear about it. The conversation starts with a WhatsApp or a call.
